BMUs, cradles, MEWPs and rope access
A building maintenance unit (BMU) is building-mounted access equipment, often operating a suspended cradle. A mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) lifts people to the work position. Rope access uses a planned rope system to reach suitable areas of the building.
These methods support different types of investigation, glazing and maintenance. We consider the location, reach, work sequence, available equipment and the needs of occupants and people below when planning the job.
Access forms part of the investigation
For leak testing, access must allow the external test area and the internal observation point to be coordinated. Site-specific risk assessments and method statements—RAMS—set out the planned sequence and controls before work starts.
